Lily Hanson's photos in Turkey and Taiwan

Image One (tu.jpg)by Lily Hanson taken April 2008in Capadocia, Turkey during the Spring Semester of CRC, 2008. A landscape shot of the ancient city of cave dwellings, Capadocia, where Christian millet escaped the violent conflict with the ruling Ottoman Empire. In the foreground, is a tree laden with "evil eyes,"symbolic protectors from evil in Turkish culture. Image Two (IMGP2085.jpg) by Lily Hanson taken October 2007 in southern Taiwan during the Fall Semester of CRC, 2007. This photo was taken from the highest level of a huge temple dedicated to Matsu, the layered roof of which is seen in the foreground. This goddess is worshiped in coastal cities all over the Buddhist world, as she is thought to be a protector of those at sea: sailors and fisherman. In the background is a crowded harbor and the sea.
